Fun Basketball Cookies perfect for game day gatherings.
Ingredients

- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- 3 cups royal icing
- Orange and black food coloring
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a small bowl, stir together flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
- In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugar until smooth.
- Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract.
- Gradually blend in the dry ingredients.
- Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of dough into balls, and place onto ungreased cookie sheets.
- Flatten each ball slightly.
- Bake 8 to 10 minutes in the preheated oven, or until golden.
- Allow cookies to cool on baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to wire racks to cool completely.
- Once cooled, decorate cookies with royal icing using orange and black food coloring to create basketball designs.
Notes
For a healthier twist, substitute some all-purpose flour for whole wheat flour or use coconut sugar instead of white sugar. Store leftover cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week.
