Ingredients

- 1 cup butter, softened
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 can (21 oz) cherry pie filling
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (for glaze)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
- In a bowl, cream together the softened butter, sugar, and salt until smooth.
- Gradually add in the flour and mix until a dough forms.
- Press the dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking pan.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until lightly golden.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes.
- Spread the cherry pie filling evenly over the baked crust.
- In a small bowl, mix the powdered sugar, milk, and almond extract to make the glaze.
- Drizzle the glaze over the cherry filling.
- Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes.
- Let cool before cutting into squares.
Notes
Don’t overmix the dough to keep the crust tender. Allow bars to cool before cutting for better shape.
