Description

Delightful dessert bars with a buttery crust and sweet cherry filling, perfect for holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 can (21 oz) cherry pie filling
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, cream together the softened butter, sugar, and salt until smooth.
  3. Gradually add in the flour and mix until a dough forms.
  4. Press the dough evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking pan.
  5. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until lightly golden.
  6. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes.
  7. Spread the cherry pie filling evenly over the baked crust.
  8. In a small bowl, mix the powdered sugar, milk, and almond extract to make the glaze.
  9. Drizzle the glaze over the cherry filling.
  10. Return the pan to the oven and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes.
  11. Let cool before cutting into squares.

Notes

Don’t overmix the dough to keep the crust tender. Allow bars to cool before cutting for better shape.
