Description

Delicious dessert bars combining all the flavors of cinnamon rolls with a creamy cream cheese swirl, perfect for cozy occasions.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter (cold and cubed)
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
  • 8 oz cream cheese (softened)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter (softened)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Grease your baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
  3. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Cut in the cold butter until it resembles fine crumbs.
  5. Stir in the buttermilk and vanilla extract until just combined.
  6. Pour half of the batter into your prepared baking dish and spread it out evenly.
  7. In a separate bowl, mix the brown sugar and cinnamon.
  8. Sprinkle the cinnamon mixture over the first layer of batter in the baking dish.
  9. Spread the remaining batter over the cinnamon layer.
  10. In a mixing bowl, blend the softened cream cheese, softened butter, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla until smooth.
  11. Drizzle the cream cheese mixture over the top of the batter in the baking dish.
  12. Use a knife to swirl the cream cheese into the batter gently.
  13. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until golden and a toothpick comes out clean from the center.
  14. Let it cool in the pan before slicing into bars.

Notes

For a twist, swap buttermilk for yogurt or regular milk. Add nuts or raisins for texture, or experiment with spices.
