Instructions

  1. Whisk the eggs, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a medium bowl until smooth.
  2. Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and add butter or oil to coat the pan.
  3. Dip each slice of bread into the custard, coating both sides but not soaking to the point of falling apart.
  4. Let excess custard drip off each slice back into the bowl.
  5. Place the custard-coated slices in the hot skillet without crowding the pan.
  6. Cook each slice for 2 to 3 minutes per side until golden brown and crisp.
  7. Adjust the heat if the bread browns too fast and is not warmed through.
  8. Whisk the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla for the glaze until smooth and pourable.
  9. Drizzle the glaze over warm French toast right after you remove it from the skillet.
  10. Serve the toast immediately so the glaze melts into the warm bread.
