- 2 pounds potatoes, peeled and diced
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 1 cup grated cheese (usually Gruyère or Cheddar)
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup diced onion
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Paprika for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large pot, boil the diced potatoes until tender, then drain.
- In a saucepan, melt the butter and sauté the onions until translucent.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the cream, sautéed onions, salt, and pepper.
- Layer half of the potatoes in a baking dish, pour half of the cream mixture over, and sprinkle with half of the cheese.
- Repeat with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheese.
- Sprinkle paprika on top for garnish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 30-40 minutes, or until golden and bubbly.
Notes
For a lighter version, use low-fat cream and less butter. You can add vegetables like spinach or broccoli for extra nutrition.
