Description

Delicious turtle bars with layers of buttery crust, crunchy pecans, gooey caramel, and rich chocolate. Perfect for any gathering or indulgent snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1 cup pecan halves
  • 2/3 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1 cup milk chocolate chips
  • Extra chopped pecans
  • Sea salt flakes
  • Drizzled caramel sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Prepare a 9×13 inch baking pan by lining it with parchment paper.
  2. Combine flour and brown sugar in a medium mixing bowl. Cut in the cold, cubed butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Press the mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared pan.
  4. Sprinkle the pecan halves in an even layer over the crust.
  5. In a small saucepan, combine butter and brown sugar for the caramel layer. Place over medium heat and stir constantly.
  6. Cook the mixture until it bubbles and changes color, then continue cooking for one minute after boiling.
  7. Carefully pour the caramel mixture evenly over the pecans and crust.
  8. Bake for 18-20 minutes, until bubbly and golden brown.
  9. Remove from the oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over the hot bars. Allow to soften.
  10. Spread the melted chocolate into an even layer.

Notes

Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week, or freeze for up to three months. For a gluten-free version, use a 1:1 gluten-free flour blend.
