Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup strawberry puree
  • Food coloring (optional)
  • Frosting of choice (vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and grease three 9-inch pans.
  2. Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in eggs one at a time.
  4. Stir in milk and vanilla.
  5. Mix flour and baking powder in a separate bowl.
  6. Gradually add dry mix to the wet mix.
  7. Divide batter into three equal parts.
  8. Stir cocoa powder into one part for chocolate.
  9. Stir strawberry puree into one part for strawberry.
  10. Leave the last part plain for vanilla and add food coloring if you like.
  11. Pour each batter into its own prepared pan.
  12. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
  13. Cool the cakes completely on a rack.
  14. Layer cakes with chocolate, strawberry, and vanilla frosting.

Notes

Brush each layer with a simple syrup or a little milk before frosting to add moisture. Avoid overbaking to ensure a moist cake. Store loosely covered at room temperature for up to two days.
