Description

Deliciously soft and colorful cookies that crack with powdered sugar on top, perfect for springtime gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon almond extract (optional)
  • ½ cup powdered sugar (for rolling)
  • Gel food coloring (pink, yellow, green, purple, or any colors of choice)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  3. Whisk the flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  4. Beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  5. Add the eggs one at a time and mix well.
  6. Stir in the vanilla and almond extract if using it.
  7. Add the dry mix to the wet mix and stir until just combined.
  8. Divide the dough into bowls for each color.
  9. Mix gel food color into each portion until even.
  10. Cover and chill the dough for at least 30 minutes.
  11. Scoop tablespoon-sized portions and roll into balls.
  12. Coat each ball in powdered sugar until well covered.
  13. Place the balls on the sheet about 2 inches apart.
  14. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until they puff and crack.
  15. Let the cookies rest on the sheet for a few minutes.
  16. Move the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

Chill the dough to prevent spreading. Use gel food coloring to maintain the dough’s consistency. Avoid overbaking; pull them when the edges are set but the centers remain soft.
