- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ teaspoons baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon almond extract (optional)
- ½ cup powdered sugar (for rolling)
- Gel food coloring (pink, yellow, green, purple, or any colors of choice)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Whisk the flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
- Beat the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time and mix well.
- Stir in the vanilla and almond extract if using it.
- Add the dry mix to the wet mix and stir until just combined.
- Divide the dough into bowls for each color.
- Mix gel food color into each portion until even.
- Cover and chill the dough for at least 30 minutes.
- Scoop tablespoon-sized portions and roll into balls.
- Coat each ball in powdered sugar until well covered.
- Place the balls on the sheet about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 10 to 12 minutes until they puff and crack.
- Let the cookies rest on the sheet for a few minutes.
- Move the cookies to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
Chill the dough to prevent spreading. Use gel food coloring to maintain the dough’s consistency. Avoid overbaking; pull them when the edges are set but the centers remain soft.
