Rich and fudgy brownies made with sourdough discard, perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients

- 1 cup sourdough discard
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup chocolate chips (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease an 8×8 inch baking pan.
- In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat.
- Once melted, remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the sugar, eggs, and vanilla until well combined.
- Stir in the sourdough discard until smooth.
- In a separate bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.
- If using, fold in the chocolate chips.
- Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out mostly clean with a few moist crumbs.
- Allow the brownies to cool in the pan before cutting into squares and serving.
Notes
For a healthier twist, use coconut oil instead of butter and reduce the sugar. They pair well with ice cream or fresh berries.
