A smooth and creamy vanilla custard dessert that’s easy to make and feels special.
Ingredients

- 2 cups milk
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup cornstarch
- 3 egg yolks
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 cup butter
- 1 pre-made pastry shell or graham cracker crust
- Whipped cream for topping
Instructions
- Combine milk, sugar, and cornstarch in a saucepan.
- Stir over medium heat until the mix thickens.
- Beat the egg yolks in a separate bowl.
- Whisk a little hot milk into the yolks to temper them.
- Pour the egg mix back into the saucepan and stir for 2 to 3 minutes.
- Remove from heat and stir in vanilla and butter until smooth.
- Pour the custard into the pastry shell.
- Let cool, then chill in the fridge until set.
- Top with whipped cream before serving.
Notes
Stir constantly while heating to avoid lumps. Chill long enough for the custard to set properly.
