Description

A simple, hearty casserole filled with layers of ground beef, potatoes, and cheese that brings warmth and comfort to the table.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 45 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1/2 cup beef broth or water
  • 1/4 cup milk (optional, for creaminess)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and grease a 9×13-inch dish.
  2. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up as you go.
  4. Drain excess fat if needed.
  5. Stir in the chopped onion and minced garlic and cook until soft.
  6. Spread the cooked beef mixture evenly in the bottom of the prepared dish.
  7. Arrange thin potato slices over the beef in a single layer or slightly overlapping.
  8. Season the potatoes with salt, pepper, Italian seasoning, and paprika.
  9. Sprinkle the shredded cheddar and grated Parmesan evenly on top.
  10. Pour the beef broth around the edges to keep the potatoes moist.
  11. Drizzle the milk over the top if you want extra creaminess.
  12. Cover the casserole with foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  13. Remove the foil and bake for another 15 to 20 minutes until potatoes are tender.
  14. Let the casserole rest for a few minutes before slicing.
  15. Garnish with fresh parsley if you like and serve hot.

Notes

Leftovers keep well and can be refrigerated for up to four days or frozen for up to three months. Reheat in the oven for best texture.
